New CD from Wire Assembly on Found Property Label FP14

Wire Assembly the free improvising guitar trio based in Sheffield have a new CD out on Found Property as of February 2014.

A recent Review of the last Wire Assembly release said:

The playing is a pleasure to listen to. The improvisations never lose focus or momentum—all three guitarists are adept at throwing out and accepting gambits, and often finishing each other’s phrases while doing so. The tasks of comping, playing single note lines and even hinting at a bassline—as Jasnoch does on occasion—are continually shifted around, keeping the sound moving ahead. Particularly exciting are those moments when a spontaneous, obliquely jazz-like chord progression breaks out, as when Jasnoch and Simpson do the free improv equivalent of chase choruses over Carver’s motile harmonies. Sad News – Death of Bert Jansch at 67

Posted in news, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 7, 2011 by electronicmusik

I was sad to read about the death of Bert Jansch earlier this week.
Born 3rd November 1943 he was well known for his solo work, work with Pentagle and collaborations with John Renbourne.

He took huge influence from fingerstyle guitar innovator Davy Graham (also sadly missed) and combined with a resonant, beautiful tone of voice managed to bridge the gap between folk and innovative experimentation. In turn he influenced others, notably Jimmy Page who performed Black Mountain Side (an instrumental version of Jansch’s Black Waterside) on the 1st Led Zeppelin album.

Jansch died on the 5th October 2011 after finally losing the battle to cancer first diagnosed 3 years ago

Posted in DIY electronics, Home Made Instruments, music technology, Sound Art, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 9, 2011 by electronicmusik

I made a new sound source / noise generation platform today from some old guitar bits I found on the tip about 20 years ago. Played with a bow and contact miked it should form part of my equipment at the next performance. Sounds beautiful acoustically ……. anyway have a look and feel free to comment (excuse the rudimentary woodwork skills)
