Manchester Artists Bonfire 26th January 2012 Islington Mill

Great event coming up on the 26th of January is the annual Manchester Artists Bonfire.

I’ll be playing as Noise Research with Clutter at the after party.

Also playing are Womb, Hop Man Jnr, Debbie Sharp, My Disabled Daughter and No Womb

Bonfire is 6 – 9 pm, after party 9 – 1am.

It takes place at Islington Mill, James Street, Salford, M3 5HW.

The Manchester Artists’ Bonfire 2012 is the second annual bonfire. The bonfire is delivered this year by RS a new visual and live arts events company.

This is an event for artists by artists, however you identify with the word, and all are welcome to attend. In the absence of our art we will rethink our relationships to it and to each other at a time when the country is re evaluating art in economic terms. Each artist has equal stake in the collective outcome and the discussion that is generated by each burning. Artists take to the centre to burn their art and have the opportunity to say something important to them, their practice, their art world or community.

Artists are asked to pledge their art to the fire with an companying piece of writing (or any other output ie sound) related to why they are burning it or to the act of burning art and what it can mean.

We join in a festival of flux and celebrate it on our own terms.

In 2011 the fire acted as a symbol for solidarity and provided a voice for dissatisfaction. In 2012 a new context will be built based on a cross section of personal and political pledges.

The Bonfire event is a free event for all. The after party entry cost is tbc (reduced entry for artists).
